Our 2002 Litter

has been born! The puppies arrived April 2nd, 2002. Mom is Yancey, Ch. Madigan's Baby Grand. Dad is Biff, Am.Ch. Britannia Back To The Future, who was also the dad to her 2001 pups, which I feel was our best ever litter. Photos of Yancey with those pups can be seen on the 2001 Litter page and More Photos of the 2001 Litter page.

There are 7 puppies - 1 girl and 6 boys! They're a rainbow of colours - 2 black boys, 1 brown boy, and 4 'white' puppies, where the body is predominantly white, with spots or patches of colour. Two of these are white with black (1 male, 1 female), 1 is white with blue, and 1 is white with fawn. Although these markings are not considered correct by show standards, they are not uncommon and are all Beardie just the same!

This page was starting to get a wee bit big, so I started a new page for pictures of the puppies. This page features pictures of them from 2 days to 4 weeks old.

For photos of them from 4 to 6 weeks go to the 2002 Litter Page 2 page.
For photos from 6 to 8 weeks go to the 2002 Litter Page 3 page.
For the newest photos go to the 2002 Litter Page 4 page.

Here are some pictures of them at 2 days old, quickly taken in the evening of April 4.

And some taken April 5, at 3 days old

"Hey quit shoving!"

13 days old, April 15

Above: The whole gang! No they're not cold, they're just seeking comfort after the 'traumatizing' experience of being moved so the bedding could be changed AND having their nails clipped!

April 16, two whole weeks old!

Hey they're starting to really look like little dogs!

Believe it or not, we had a mini heatwave today, and even the puppies were getting warm! This is one way of trying to stay cool! Some of them still wanted to cuddle, in spite of the heat. But most of the day they were spread far out!

You might notice no shots of the blue boy today. Every time I went to look in on them, he was lying at the very side of the box under the guard rail, against the cool wood! I told you it was hot today!

16 Days old, April 18

They're just into the first really fun stage, eyes and ears are open, they can sort of walk, and they're starting to play with each other!

18 days old, April 20

No he's not complaining, really that's just a BIG yawn!

20 days old, April 22

"Spotty" and "Dotty" - the 'Dalmatians', my tongue in cheek affectionate term for the white and black pups!

"Hey I heard that! Who you callin' a Dalmatian?!"

April 23, 3 weeks old!

April 24, 22 days old.

Here they're learning that the world is bigger than their whelping box,
getting a chance to investigate their room while the bedding was changed.

While some were raring to go, others weren't so sure!

Of course Mom was on hand to calm any nerves

The whole gang out for another romp in the room

Discovering the water dish, aka the 'puppy wading pool'! That's mom Yancey's big nose on the right.

Exploring the world is tiring!

April 27, 25 days old

They're growing up so fast! The whelping box was starting to get a bit crowded, so it was time to put up the puppy pen.

April 28, 26 days old

"Mack" the black, seems puzzled by this new creature!

"Drew" the blue with "Dotty" the white/black girl

I put a small crate in the pen with them this morning, and just a few hours later I peeked in and saw four pups curled up asleep in the crate. Before I could get the camera and take the picture, "Zack" the black woke up and came out.

The photo on the right shows "Zack" the black in front of the crate, and in the crate there is "Shawn" the fawn on the left, "Dotty" the white/black girl on the right, and "Brynn" the brown sitting behind.

"Hey what's this?"

"It's mine now!"

Whoops I woke Spotty up!
