So, you're getting a new puppy and have to pick up a few supplies for him or her? Sounds easy enough, but when you're faced with aisle after aisle of every kind of toy, dish, brush, food, and book imaginable how does one choose which is best?!! Also, new owners might wonder whether it's worth it to join a breed or kennel club, what to look for in an obedience class, or how to sort the good information from bad when browsing the web. Many years of owning Beardies and trying out a variety of different items have helped us decide which products we prefer, and which suggestions for training or grooming for instance work well with Beardies, so we offer the following as our own recommendations:

Though a local
big box chain store such as PetSmart is a good source of some basic items such
as crates or toys, in
general many of the products available at your local pet or feed store will not be of
the highest quality, and usually they will not carry the specific
brands of some of the products mentioned, particularly grooming tools. In Canada the best place to purchase these, and many other
quality items at reasonable prices is through mail order from:
The Pet Supply House in Ontario. Website: http://www.petsupplyhouse.com/. A free catalogue is available.
In the US there are a number of good mail order supply places, such as Cherrybrook: http://www.cherrybrook.com, or R.C. Steele. A list of mail order pet supply places can be found at www.inch.com/~dogs/catalogs.html.
