| These round boxes can be painted in a
wide variety of ways. Originally I would just stain the wood and paint
the dog in a scene on the lid (see photo of Clumber boxes below). With
the largest size I would also paint a full scene featuring 3 dogs
trotting around the side of the box (see picture of the single Clumber
box below), but I found this took so much time to do that I had to
charge quite a bit more for these so I don't do too many like this
anymore unless someone requests one and is willing to pay extra.
After painting many of these boxes I felt I was getting bored doing them the same way over and over, so I started 'jazzing them up' a bit, painting the box various colours, often with decorative speckles or other accents, and either painting the typical scene on top or opting for a headstudy with fancy border. Either way they are painted they make great little gifts, with the smallest 'pill box' size great for small earrings or rings, the medium size well suited to small jewellery, or paperclips or thumbtacks, and the large size is good for small change or other items. |
