Here are a few more examples of the turned hardwood Christmas ornament. I generally start by either painting the wood a bright Christmas red or green with white speckles, or just staining the wood and adding a dusting of gold speckles for a more traditional look.

Newfoundland Christmas Ornament

The Wheaten and Airedale ornaments shown here feature a headstudy against a white background, looking through a Christmas wreath. For a white or light coloured dog which wouldn't show up against the white background, I can stain the ornament like in the Airedale piece, and leave the inside of the wreath stained as well, painting the headstudy looking through the wreath against the wood-coloured background. Another option is shown in the Newf ornament - painting the dog in a full winter scene within either an oval or circle.

These next few ornaments are all flat hardwood ornaments, in 3 sizes. Like all of my items they can be painted in a variety of ways, but typically I paint these as shown - first painting the piece either a bright Christmas red or green with white speckles, and painting a headstudy against a white background looking through a Christmas wreath.
